Drawing and painting have always
followed my life,
Some periods more and some less.
Portrait painting is my passion.
Over the years I have worked in oil,
acrylic, pencil, watercolor, and charcoal.

I prefer to work in acrylic,
as they have the many advantages of
dryness, no chemicals, no smell.

My passion for watercolor is
the freshness --
easy to have in hand.
Just lovely colors.

Charcoal drawing gives me
the wonderful challenges of
the gray scale.
They are always in my bag.

My first work of art was
when I was only one year old.
One Sunday morning I sat on the
kitchen table drawing on the wall
with my mum's red lipstick.
Just imagine the reward I got
from my parents when they woke up.
Maybe that is why I became so interested
in painting.

About Marianne's Art School

Marianne started to teach in 1993 when several aspiring artists requested her to teach them. Since that time, Marianne's school, sponsored by the local educational association, has given five exhibitions with more planned. Marianne is a convert to the Betty Edward's method of right brain drawing, and is inspired by many notable artists, including Kimon Nicolaides, whom she quotes:

"To learn to draw is a question about how to learn to see - to see right - and that means appreciable more than to just look with the eyes."

-- Kimon Nicolaides
