Ok here my question: I have been studying the sheet music lessons and decided to try to read one by myself. I found "In the hall of the mountain king" by Grieg http://www.angelfire.com/co/cubo/images/grieg_hotmk.gif The key signature of "In the hall of the mountain king" says it has 2 # that means a D major scale. The first note on the second measure is E but it
has a # sign before it which makes it an E#. Since there is no E# it should
be F. Why name it like that and place the note on the E space instead that
on the F line?

Remember in the "Key of D," you have 2 accidentals. They are 'C# & F#'. So they cannot put this Note in the 'F' column--simply because it would be read as an 'F#'.

They could however, have used the "Natural Sign" in the 'F' column, but for what ever reason, I guess he chose not to do this. As a guess the 'F' Natural could be read as a Minor 3rd, and the writer did not want the reader thinking along these lines.

This piece was written more for the piano however. A recomendation might be to look for something that relates more to the guitar.

I knew it was something like that although I would have never guessed it by myself.

Thanks a lot.

About your recommnedation, do you have any classical tunes to recommend that were originally written for the guitar?
