I really love the Spanish sounding guitar solos sometimes used in modern music (like the solo in "thinking about forever" by P.O.D or "Truly Madly Deeply" by Savage garden.)Could anyone tell me what sort of scale these solos are based on so i could compose my own? IP: Logged |

I just found this scale and haven't tried it out yet but it looks sensible! Here's an eight note spanish scale in the key of A----------------------------e ----------------------------B ----------------------------G -------------------5--7-----D -----------5--6--8----------A -5--6--8--9-----------------E You could move this around on the 6th string to give you all the other keys you need. If you can try and extend it to two octaves across the frteboard. Good luck! San. IP: Logged |

The harmonic minor. It's simply the natural minor scale with a major 7th.Natural Minor: A B C D E F G Harmonic Minor: A B C D E F G# If you're just playing power chords, you can play this solo over all of the notes EXCEPT the 7th note. IE don't play the note that's a whole step lower than the root note and you'll be able to play the harmonic minor without any clashing tones Also, if you know about modes, then you can make some really spanish (flamenco) sounding stuff. Just playing over an E5 chord, you can play the A harmonic minor over it and it'll sound really spanish-like (This is called the Phrygian Dominant mode) [This message has been edited by show_no_mercy (edited November 07, 2002).] IP: Logged |

This one might be TOO spanishy if your going for a savage garden type sound but here it is:------------------------------------12- ------------------------------12-13-15--- ------------------------13-14--------- ---------------12-14-15------------- ---11-12-14-15---------------------- 12---------------------------------Also, try out the locrian scale. Actually just learn all your modes and you'll be better off for it. IP: Logged |
