I got my guitar last march and now its december (In 2003 in case no one reads this anytime soon) and I can play a few songs. My best is "I believe in a thing called love" by The Darkness. But I havent made any good solos or anything thats really MINE. It's always a rip off of something or ends up being played with all power chords. I can pull off and hammer on and stuff like that, but I havent got anything original and good (with out it being all power chords). Am I slow. I've been playing for 9 months (roughly....I think)and I still cant think of anything good. Is this how long it took all you more expierenced players ??????IP: Logged |

as for being able to make your own music, and gettin your fingers working.... practice scales. scales are the foundation for solo's, and if you practice them enough, you'll build your digits. remember that the most important thing in music is timing, so play with a metronome or tap you foot at very least.IP: Logged |

Learn theory. All sorts. The modes, scales, different chords etc. Once you've got a good grasp of this then try writing songs. You'll find it much easier to come up with your own stuff.IP: Logged |

All i can say is, play and play a lot. If you can play with a friend as well. In the end I assure you it will be rewarding once you get to the point of self satisfaction. I would say learn some theory but do not go over board unless you want to play technical elevator music. I know a few players who know more theory then a lot of great players. The sad part is they do not know how to apply it correctly in my opinion. That is why i would say learn theory then forget it. Unless you want to sound like you have no soul!! Remember though this is just my take. It can be a good thing if used correctly. IP: Logged |

I think the road to success is different for everyone. For some it's short for some it's long, for some are still traveling on that road and some are trying to find it.IP: Logged |
