What and why I review artwork
Because there is a lot of good art out there that never gets noticed. And there is a lot of bad art out there that receives LOTS of notice. What I do is give you my opinion, and only my opinion. I’m not going to argue, fence words, or debate technique. I’m not going to come off as some high-end art expert, because I’m not. I’m an artist. I’m also someone who invests in art. (That means I pay money for it, collecting it.) I know what I like, and I am certainly not ashamed to say it, no matter how PC or un-PC is the art and artist.
Who gets reviewed?
If your art is online AND:
- if I see your artwork and like it, I’ll review it
- if I see your artwork, and you’re a featured artist somewhere important (like MoMA), and I REALLY don’t like your artwork, chances are I’ll review it, and you probably won’t like what I have to say
- you sign up for a review, providing a link to your online gallery. Sign up on this page by posting a link to your website or webpage(s).
Types of artwork I will review:
- visual art (everything from pencil sketches to oil to digital and beyond)
- sculpture (I don’t care what medium you sculpt in. It can be fibre, clay, metal, stone, wood, wax, paper, plastic, dominoes…whatever.)
What else I will occasionally review:
- Contests
- Online gallery services and art showcases
- websites devoted to art, selling art, promoting art and/or artists
Will I critique your artwork? Hmm. I can, but one person’s opinion is just that, one person. Better get a broad spectrum of opinions if you really desire them. The best critique is you. Do you like your work? And I don’t mean just because you created it. Do you really think it’s special? Then why do you need someone else’s opinion? …You don’t. Be honest. You want a critique because you crave raves, accolades, praise. You seek attention. Don’t most people? Best advice: Pick up your brush and paint; your canvas is drying.
